Orphan Sponsorship
Learn how to sponsor an orphan.
Hearth to Hearth Ministries uses a system of sponsorship to raise the money that we need to take care of the orphans and widows. This is the way it works: An individual, family, or group agrees to sponsor, or support, an orphan or widow. It costs about a dollar a day to sponsor an orphan and a little over a dollar and a half a day to sponsor a widow. Stop a minute and think what you get for a dollar a day. In Kenya that dollar pays for food, clothes, a place to sleep, and schooling* for a whole day.
Question: How much does it cost to sponsor an orphan?
Answer: It costs $30 a month to sponsor an orphan.
Question: How much does it cost to sponsor a widow?
Answer: It costs $50 a month to sponsor a widow, and that helps to cover the expenses of the widow and her children.
Question: If the expenses are covered, why do we have a “Let's Build an Orphanage” fundraising page?
Answer: Thirty dollars a day will cover the expenses once the buildings are in place and paid for.
Question: What about the granaries fund raiser to buy extra food?
Answer: Hearth to Hearth Ministries is helping more orphans than just the sponsored ones. At the new projects less then one in four orphans are sponsored. This drains the money away and so extra money has to be raised. Also, during the last famines Hearth to Hearth Ministries fed many orphans that came to the orphanage gates. By feeding all those extra mouths, our food supplies became very low. Also, in Kenya one needs to buy the grains and other foods when they come in season because they will be much more expensive later on, if they can be found at all. The grains have just been harvested in Kenya and we are trying to buy what we need for the next year now so that we can save money. The problem is, we need to have money now so that we can save money later.
Below are pictures of orphans who need sponsors. Each circle, or stone, in our imaginary footpath below represents an orphan. The empty circles represent an unsponsored child that Hearth to Hearth Ministries is currently taking care of. Every time an orphan is sponsored we will color in a stone to help them find their way safely to our school. (These stones are not being colored very fast because we are bringing in orphans almost as fast as we are finding sponsors.)
